Cubit supported SECO in the development of Easy Edge, a highly performing gateway based on a microcontroller with integrated mobile connectivity. It comes in a compact size (110 x 91 x 31 mm) and is designed for a wide range of industrial IoT applications with low power consumption.
In collaboration with SECO’s R&D departments, Cubit conducted preliminary assessment activities to define the mechanical dimensions of the device and identify the components to be used. Following the technical analysis of the identified solutions, co-design of the electrical schemes, BOM, and 3D PCB Layout was carried out, leading to the realization of printed circuits and prototyping of the device, subsequently validated through Pre-Compliance testing according to RED+FCC regulations. Hardware validation and climate chamber testing within the range of 0°/+60°C were also performed. Cubit also assisted SECO in developing the firmware required for certification and testing, ultimately leading to RED and FCC certification of the prototype.
Based on an Espressif ESP32-WROVER microprocessor, with integrated Wi-Fi and BT-BT LE, Easy Edge supports either a GSM/GPRS module, SIM868, or a Multi-Ban CAT-M and NB-IoT 4G module, SIM7080G, for data communication to the cloud in the absence of Wi-Fi. Both modules offer GNSS functionality (GPS) for device geolocation. The internal memory consists of 520KB SRAM + 16KB SRAM in RTC, and the integrated 2000mAh LiPo battery supports the Deep Sleep mode for energy saving. Easy Edge is equipped with a case suitable for wall mounting and DIN rail mounting. IO, serial, and CAN interfaces are accessible via Wire-to-Board connectors.
A perfect device for retrofitting, easy to integrate, and capable of executing Artificial Intelligence algorithms, Easy Edge finds application in the Vending and Coffee sector, logistics, and Industrial IoT.
