The challenge
The breakdown of an expensive and complex machinery inevitably has a negative impact on business performance, causing revenue losses and resulting in material and labor downtime. Therefore, an effective predictive maintenance activity brings significant benefits to the company by preserving the machinery’s condition and allowing better planning of repair interventions, thus preventing the risk of breakdowns.
The solution
Cubit has designed the hardware and firmware of an innovative sensor capable of operating with RS485 or Bluetooth interface for real-time verification of the functional status of CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines used for wood processing.
The intelligent sensor constantly monitors noise, vibration, and temperature, making it easy to identify malfunctions and reduce unplanned machine downtime.
Its exclusive technology allows it to disregard the normal vibrations generated by the machine, supporting the production process in real-time and providing advance warnings about the risk of breakdown and the need for replacements.
The sensor, easy to apply, implements various vibrometric analysis techniques to detect abnormal values, without requiring manual checks by the staff.
The benefits for our customer were evident from the initial tests, with a reduction in machine downtime costs due to failures and with a useful pre-alarm on which to base scheduled shutdowns and potential production rescheduling according to replacement or repair needs or timeframes. This resulted in not only economic savings but also an increase in machinery uptime. Unlike preventive maintenance, the solution proposed by Cubit offers very low application costs as it intervenes only when necessary, not based on a predetermined time interval.
